Transform Approved on Sorghum to Control Sugarcane Aphids

SCA_3_P.PorterApproval has been received for the use of Transform Insecticide to control Sugarcane Aphids in Grain Sorghum.  Transform may be applied at a rate of 0.75-1.5 oz/A with a maximum of 2 applications per year.

One new restriction is:  “Do not apply product ≤ 3 days pre-bloom or until after seed set”

With this approval, we now have two insecticides for control of sugarcane aphids, Transform and Sivanto.  It will be important to rotate these products when a second application is required to prevent aphids from developing resistance to either of the modes of action.

We have been finding sugarcane aphids in johnsongrass all year long but have yet to find them in the sorghum.  As the seed treatments play out around 30-40 days after planting, I expect we will begin to see aphid populations rise in the fields.
