Corn Update 5-30-25

I received a call early Tuesday about a Victoria county corn field with purple/red leaves below the ear. When I visited the field, I found what looked similar to the corn stunt we saw last year, but most of the discolored leaves were at or below the ear. Since looking at this field we have found other fields in Victoria and Calhoun county with similar symptomology. I don’t think this is Corn Stunt since we have not been finding the corn leafhoppers. Cotton IPM Update 5-30-25

Cotton Maturity ranges from squaring to bloom.  We are still finding fleahoppers in some fields. In fact our insecticide test had mostly of adult cotton fleahoppers and some Verde Plant bugs this morning before the rain.  The treated plots had very few nymphs but the untreated cotton had adults and nymphs at a 1:1 ratio. Grain Sorghum IPM 5/30/25

Grain sorghum fields range from bloom to soft dough. We are still finding stink bugs in sorghum fields, average fields have 1 stink bug per head but some are higher.Treatment thresholds are low at bloom and increase as the grain matures.  Some of the fields have leaf footed bugs. These insects can be considered as stink bugs since they feed in a similar manner.
