The 4-H Fashion Show is designed to recognize 4-H members who have completed a Clothing and Textiles project. The following objectives are taught in the project: knowledge of fibers and fabrics, wardrobe selection, clothing construction, comparison shopping, fashion interpretation, understanding of style, good grooming, poise in front of others and personal presentation skills.
The 4-H Fashion Show is a contest for members to exhibit skills in application of their knowledge of fibers and fabrics to wardrobe selection, clothing construction or comparison shopping, fashion interpretation and understanding of style, good grooming and poise, and modeling and presentation of themselves and their garments at county, district and state levels. The Fashion Show has three divisions: Buying, Construction, and Natural Fiber.

Construction
Garments may be constructed by sewing, knitting or crocheting using new or recycled materials. Accessories may be purchases.
Construction categories include:
- Everyday Living
- Refashion
- Semi-Formal to Formal
- Theatre/Costume
Buying
Comparison shopping may include department stores, boutiques or specialty stores, mail order catalogs, outlet stores, resale shops and professional seamstresses. Three different sources must be used – not three sections of a single store.
Buying Categories include:
- Business/Interview attire
- Fantastic Fashions under $25
- Semi-Formal to Formal
- Special Interest
Natural Fibers
The Natural Fiber Contest has two categories: cotton and wool/mohair/alpaca
