Food & Nutrition

4-H members learn about nutrition, menu planning, food preparation, buying, food safety, and much more. These experiences can be completed in project group meetings or individual study with parents and leaders.

4-H Food Show
The county food show offers 4-H members an opportunity to show off skills and knowledge gained in the foods and nutrition project. 4-H members submit their recipe and project information sheet prior to the show. For the show, each participant prepares a dish from home and brings it to the contest. During the judging, 4-H members are asked questions on nutrition, food preparation and meal planning. The Wharton County 4-H Food Show is held in October of each 4-H year.

First, second, and third place winners in the junior, intermediate, and senior divisions compete in the District 11 Food Show in December. Senior 4-H members placing first at district can compete at the State Food Show in June.
