Erika has been involved in The Prairie Project, which is a multi-state extension and education approach to building rangeland literacy in the classroom, specifically using prescribed fire and multi-species grazing. The Educational and outreach curriculum was developed using both the Rangeland Analysis Platform (RAP) and vegetation monitoring transects.
Participants in the project were able to use RAP and become familiar with the platform. They analyzed the effects of specific management practices like prescribed fire, patch-burn grazing, and multi-species grazing on grasses, forbs, shrubs, and tree cover. Participants from this study ranged from 4H/FFA youth all the way to Texas Master Naturalists. Highschool students experiences the largest increase in knowledge gained at 22% on woody brush encroachment and understanding.
