We’re back with a host of news and information related to agricultural law around the country.

* Texas A&M AgriLife hosting webinar on New World Screwworm.  There have been a lot of questions and concerns about the New World Screwworm.  Texas A&M AgriLife Extension will host a free webinar on Monday, June 9 at 10 am CST.  [More info here.]  AgriLife also released a fact sheet on this issue.  [View fact sheet here.]

*US Fish and Wildlife Services seeks Voluntary Vacatur in Lesser Prairie Chicken lawsuit.  You may recall that the lesser prairie chicken was officially listed under the Endangered Species Act in 2022.  Shortly thereafter, the State of Texas filed a lawsuit to delist the bird. Initially, USFWS defended the listing, but earlier this year, they asked the judge to essentially vacate the listing and dismiss the lawsuit.  Things are more complicated, however, because there are a number of environmental groups seeking to intervene in the court to prevent this vacatur and dismissal. Bright Rollins wrote a great summary of this issue and where things currently stand here.

*Curious about the tax-related provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill?  Kristine Tidgren from the Iowa State University Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation wrote a great article outlining the key tax related provisions contained in the House’s bill. [Read post here.]

*EPA releases final insecticide strategy.  Brigit Rollins at the National Agricultural Law Center wrote a great article on the EPA’s new final insecticide strategy.  Like the final herbicide strategy released last September, the insecticide strategy is aimed at reducing insecticide impacts to protected wildlife and other species.  It aims to do this through various mitigation measures.  [Read summary here.]

*Publication on wildlife friendly fences may be of interest.   Ravenworks ecology just released a handbook for landowners on fencing with wildlife in mind.  Although the guide is geared towards Wyoming landowners, there are a number of practical tips and useful information that could apply to any landowner interested in wildlife-friendly fencing across the country. [View handbook here.]

*Stock Show report.  Many of you ask me to share about my kids and our stock show trips.  We kicked off the new season with steers at the Buff Branding in Amarillo and then headed West for the Nugget All-American sheep show and sale in Reno.  The kids did a great job, and we’re ready for a great  year.

Upcoming Presentations

Next week, I will be in Amarillo on Tuesday speaking at the Beef Improvement Federation Conference.  Then, on Wednesday, I’m headed to Lipscomb to talk estate planning.  The following week, you can find me (and my very excited children) at the Texas Farm Bureau Summer Conference at Kalahari in Round Rock where I will be giving an ag law update.
