Owning Your Piece of Texas: Key Laws Texas Landowners Need to Know

This one-of-a-kind program offers rural landowners and agricultural producers in Texas an overview of many of the key agricultural law issues that they could face. The live course allows for great questions-and-answer and discussion with the audiences. This year, we’re excited to head to Rosenberg, Dripping Springs, and Emory.

From landowner liability to eminent domain, special use tax valuation to fence law, we address practical issues in a way that makes them understandable to Texans. I will be joined by several guest speakers who are experts in these areas of the law.

The cost to attend is $75 and participants will receive a hard copy of the Owning Your Piece of Texas handbook and a catered lunch.

Ranchers Leasing Workshop

This award-winning program covers key legal and economic issues related to grazing and hunting leases. We’ve got three locations on our calendar for 2023: Waco, Boerne, and Decatur.

Dr. Greg Kaase, an ag economist, will discuss how to structure leases and how much to charge, while I will cover why written leases are important, what terms should be included, and what steps can be taken to shield a landowner and tenant from potential liability for injuries. This year, we’re excited to add an additional topic, with Casey Matzke, Extension Program Specialist, covering Pasture, Range, and Forage Insurance.

If you know me, you know you’ll never leave a program hungry, so we will serve lunch as well. All participants will also receive a hard copy of our Ranchers Agricultural Leasing Handbook. The cost for this program is $50.

We know that these dates and locations do not always work for everyone. Because of this, we developed online courses that you can watch anywhere, anytime. The Online Ranchers Leasing Workshop is a 2.5 hour course. The Owning Your Piece of Texas: Key Laws Texas Landowners Need to Know online course is about 8 hours. Both are available on demand and registrants have access to the videos for 2 years upon registration.
