Red Flag Criteria
- Dry lightning
- Lightning during a dry period
- Unusually low relative humidity
- Strong and shifting winds with a dry cold front
Red Flag Warning – Issued when a “Red Flag” event is expected to develop within 24 hours.
A Red flag event occurs when critical weather conditions develop which could lead to extensive wildfire occurrences.
Red Flag Watch – Issued when a “Red Flag” event is expected to develop in the 12-48 hour time frame
Do not burn in a Red Flag Warning or Watch period or when a frontal boundary is expected to cross within 48 hours of the burn.
