Beef Cattle Short Course set for Jan. 9 & 16
Course will offer information on a variety of topics of interest to producers

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Bexar County Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee will present the 2018 Beef Cattle Short Course in San Antonio Jan. 9 and 16.
The program will be in Room 101 of the Performing Arts building of Palo Alto College, 1400 Villaret Blvd.
Registration will begin at 6 p.m. both days, with programs starting at 6:30 p.m. and concluding by 9 p.m.
The cost is $15 per session. The Bexar County Farm Bureau will sponsor refreshments both evenings.

“This course is for beef cattle producers at all experience levels and will offer information on a variety of topics of interest to producers,” said Sam Womble, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources, Bexar County. “In a relatively short time period, this course will provide a lot of practical advice and useful knowledge that can be applied to almost any beef-cattle operation.”
Womble said the program will also have door prizes and a vendor area. Three hours of Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units — two in integrated pest management and one general — will be offered for attending both sessions.
The Jan. 9 course agenda will include:
- Developing Replacement Heifers and Adding Value to Cull Cows and Bulls, Dr. Joe Paschal, AgriLife Extension livestock specialist, Corpus Christi.
- Cattle Fever Tick Situation, Dr. Brodie Miller, Texas Animal Health Commission regional director, Beeville.
- Supplemental Feeding Strategies, Paschal.
The Jan. 16 agenda will include:
- Brush/Grazing Management 101: Back to the Basics, Drs. Bob Lyons and Megan Clayton, AgriLife Extension range specialists, Uvalde and Corpus Christi, respectively.
- Drones and Their Application on Rangeland, Clayton.
