Please find a new Extension publication attached. “Using Goals and Profitability to Determine What to Plant in Pastures” looks at both native and introduced grass options when replanting a pasture, demonstrates field prep, planting, and maintenance costs, and the ability to cover the expenses with cattle profits (both owning your own and leasing the grazing rights). I do not want to spoil the ending, but it’s not positive! This demonstrates the need for thoughtful planning before investing in planting, understanding the goals you have for the pasture and operation as a whole, and alternative options to consider before taking the leap to scrap a pasture and replant.
