Rabbit Show Informational Session

Sent,

Greetings-

My name is Jon Rentschler.   We live outside of Fort Worth; TX in the Aledo ISD and I am the president of our local Blackland Prairie Rabbit Club.  You are receiving this email because you are a local FFA advisor or 4-H Club.   Many of our rabbit club members grew up showing livestock.   Some showed steers or pigs growing up, but now live in the suburbs.   They still wanted to be involved showing and transitioned to rabbits.  I grew up on a large hog farm in Minnesota.  I was very active in FFA and 4-H growing up.   When I had my own family, I wanted them to be involved in a project and that’s one of reasons we go involved with rabbits.

We are inviting you to and your chapter and club members to our Texas Triple Extravaganza rabbit show to be held on December 9th and 10th at the Will Roger Memorial Center in Cattle Barn 1 and the Poultry Barn.

We are planning on a large show.  Our last Triple Show had over 5,200 entries!   We know that chapter and club members are looking for projects.   We would enthusiastically encourage those projects to be rabbits.   Why rabbits?  Where to start?   Because many advisors might not know much about raising and showing rabbits, we are hosting a session at the Texas Triple for youth and advisors that are considering rabbits to learn more.   Ryan Smith graduated from Arlington High School in 2021.   He was active in FFA and served in officer roles.   He was a state officer candidate for area V, is now attending Tarleton State University.  Ryan will lead this discussion.   We will be serving pizza and drinks at the session.

When:

Saturday, December 10th at 12 noon in Cattle Barn 1 at Will Rogers Memorial Center.  We will have a location set up near the livestock office.   It will be a great chance to see what all the fun is about.

See Flyer below for more information about the show.

Feel free to go to our Facebook page for further information, Blackland Prairie RBA.   Please let us know if you can attend as we want to make sure we have enough pizza and drinks!

Thanks much!

Jon

  1. Horse Skill A Thon! No horse necessary–come show off your equine knowledge!l
  2. Schooling class! This is open to anyone who takes lessons. You do not need to own your own horse for this event!
  3. Halter Class! If you own your own horse, you have the opportunity to show both grade and registered horses (mares and geldings, 5 and over or under 5 in separate classes).
  4. Showmanship! The pattern will be posted and you will follow the pattern with your horse.

BUCKLES BUCKLES BUCKLES!

Winners will receive banners, buckles, ribbons, or trophies.

All horses (except schooling class) must be validated at the Saginaw Barn AM (8-11) or Crowley PM (1-3)  on December 3rd, 2022 (first Saturday of December as usual). 2023 Texas 4-H Dog Show Validation and Rules

Sent,

Dear 4-H Members and Families,

Texas 4-H Dog Show will be held on July 6-8, 2023 at the Walker County Fairgrounds in Huntsville, Texas.  To be eligible for this show, dogs must be validated by January 10, 2023 in 4-H Online.  Attached are detailed written instructions.   Video instructions are also available at  https://youtu.be/3NzoIjK9Pco if that is more convenient.  There is one difference this year, dogs validated last year will show up in the previously registered animals.  Please go through and update them.  The 2023 Texas 4-H Dog Show Rule Book is also attached and will be posted https://texas4-h.tamu.edu/projects/dog-care-training/ soon.

2023 Dog Show Rules Final

State Dog Validation Instructions

We strongly encourage members to validate their dogs even if they are not sure they will be participating in the Texas 4-H Dog Show.  Completing the FREE validation process before January 10th will give them until entries are due in May to make a final decision.

There will be a couple of opportunities to practice with your dog whether you validated or not.

Montgomery County 4-H Dog Show will be February 4, 2023 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Conroe, Texas

Brazos County 4-H Dog Show is normally in February

Tarrant County 4-H Dog Show will be April 1st in Fort Worth.

Wise County 4-H Dog Show was held in June last year.

I will be publicizing these shows as I get the flyers and registration forms for them.

If your county is planning to host a dog show, please let us know so we can help you publicize it.

As 4-H members complete their validation, here are some things to keep in mind:

For purebred dogs (they do not have to be registered, just look purebred) you will select the correct Group and type in the breed of the dog in the box that says Breeder.

For mixed breed dogs you will select the Weight Group of the dog and list the dominant breed along with the word “Mix” or list the two breeds if known.  (Example: Border Collie Mix or Mastiff/Great Dane.)

Photos of the left and right side of the dog should be a side view of the whole dog. Get on the dog’s level so they do not turn into top views.  They should also be clear and light enough we can see all markings and color of the dog.   The dog should only be wearing a collar.  No sweaters, costumes, rain gear or anything that covers the dog’s color and markings.

Dogs MUST be validated each year.  If you validated a dog last year, the information and photos will be in the system, but you must still review and SUBMIT to validate for the 2022-2023 4-H year.  Please update the photos if the dog has changed significantly since last year.

We do encourage you to validate any dogs that you are eligible to show.  Situations may change through the year.

When we send reminders directly to 4-H members enrolled in the 4-H Dog Project, we will tell them “DO NOT to wait until the last day to complete your validation.  It will be difficult for your County Extension Office to help you at 4:45 p.m. on the last day.  If you are having trouble with 4-H Online, contact your local County Extension office.  “

Thank you for your assistance in distributing this information to your 4-H Dog Project members.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
