Sent,
Dear 4-H Members and Families,
The Prairie View A&M 4-H Youth Development Unit is happy to announce that the Meat Goat Give-Away committee would like to share an opportunity to expand your youth agricultural program. The 4-H Goat Kid Giveaway Program has promoted dairy goats as a 4-H project since 1987. Since 2019, we have invested over $46,000 by offering both dairy & meat goats to deserving youth across Texas.
Applications are open from September 18th to October 1st. The committee will judge the applications by looking for evidence that the applicant has the resources (safe, adequate housing and companion animal(s) and the knowledge (we can teach you) to properly take care of the goat and show commitment to furthering their overall 4-H involvement. The matrix will also include an “evaluation section” determining previous participation follow-up data. Applicants do not need to have previously raised goats to enter this program—they need a safe, loving home and the desire to learn about goat husbandry. The committee will inform the youth of their acceptance in the give-away by October 7th.
I’ve attached the marketing flyer for the project. We would love to have your 4-H, FFA, or youth organization participate this year.
Students will need two letters of recommendation. If the goat is staying at any FFA facility, one letter of recommendation must be emailed to cmpierfax@pvamu.edu from the FFA teacher’s school address. Please ask the teacher to include the student’s name in the subject line.
Only five goats will be awarded.
