Hello!
Prairie View A&M University 4-H Youth Development and the Agriculture and Natural Resource units will hold the State 4-H Goat Judging Contest and Workshop on July 25-26, 2025, to bring awareness to youth about goat husbandry.
Students will gain valuable skills that will help them select the type of goats for their farms and projects that will be healthy, productive, and profitable. Participants will learn the proper terminology to describe the traits of the goats and how to use scorecards to evaluate goats based on the industry standards of proper conformation for meat and milk goats. Being a good judge involves selecting good goats and justifying the selection of goats.
The workshop will help the participants improve their organizational and critical thinking skills, such as making decisions and communicating. The workshop will heavily focus on how to prepare and present reasons for placing goats.
The 4-H Goat Judging Contest is open to youth ages 8-18. Registration is required. Youth do not need any prior experience with goats to participate.
