The Prairie View A&M 4-H Youth Development Program is excited to announce the return of the Goat Judging Workshop and Contest. Please, read below for more information.

General description: The workshop/contest will bring awareness to goat husbandry while teaching skills to help students select healthy, productive, and profitable goats for their projects. Participants will learn the proper terminology to describe the traits of the goats and how to use scorecards to evaluate goats based on the industry standards of proper conformation for meat and milk goats. Being a good judge involves the ability to select good goats and justify the selection of goats. The workshop and contest will help the participants improve their organizational and critical thinking skills, such as decision-making, teamwork, and communication skills.

Date/Time: July 22, 2022, 3:00 PM-7:00 PM CST and July 23, 2022, 7:45 AM-5:00 PM CST (This is not an overnight camp.)

Where: PVAMU Main Campus. Check-in will be in the Carden-Waller (Cooperative Extension Building) 250 E.M. Norris St., Prairie View, TX 77446

Who Can Attend: ANY youth ages 8-18 years of age. Youth do not have to be registered 4-H members or have any experience with goats. We do not allow anyone to bring their goat.

Cost: Free; however, registration is limited to the first 50 youth. Each registered youth can bring a max of 3 family/friends.

Lunch: Provided and FREE! For Saturday, parents may want to pack snacks.

Additional Information: The COVID-19 pandemic is in effect. Please, if your youth or anyone attending with them exhibits symptoms or has been exposed to a confirmed positive person, be courteous and not attend.
