This information is on behalf of Jennifer Zoller,
Howdy,
In addition to the email below there are two minor changes in the horse validation this year, which were just incorporated into 4-H connect today. First, there is a short survey that we are asking families to take when validating. The answers to these questions will help us to strengthen our pitch to potential sponsors of the horse program, so please encourage families to participate. Also, there are two boxes in the validation page: “Date State Verified” and “Date County Verified”. If you could please type in the date that you approve a validation and then as Chelsie and I review validations we will put the date that we checked each validation. This will allow Chelsie and I to begin reviewing validations as they’re approved instead of waiting until May 10th, allowing more time for any needed validation corrections to be rectified. If the family types a date into these boxes please delete the dates from both boxes and add the date that you actually approve the validation. I am in the process of making a “how to” video for horse validation that you can share with your horse families, and it is my hope to have that to you by the end of the week. We greatly appreciate your help in this process and please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Howdy,
The 2018 Horse Validation will be open on 4-H Connect starting tomorrow March 1st. Attached you will find pdf documents outlining the instructions for families and instructions for approval on the county agent side, and they will also be available on our webpage shortly: https://animalscience.tamu.edu/livestock-species/equine/state-4h-show/ . As in years past, the cost for validation is $10 per horse from March 1st through April 15th, $20 per horse from April 16th through May 1st and we have added a late fee of $250 per horse from May 2nd through May 5th. There will be absolutely no validations accepted after May 5th. If you could have all horse validations within your county approved by May 10th we would greatly appreciate it. Also, please encourage those with registered horses to make sure that they apply for and receive any necessary transfer of ownership with the breed association. The owner listed in 4-H Connect must match the owner of record on the horse’s registration papers, and appropriate relationship status selected between the horse owner and the 4-Her. We are partnering with various breed associations to recognize those youth showing registered horses at the State 4-H Horse Show, and in order to be eligible for those breed awards the registration papers must be correct and uploaded to 4-H connect.
We have several new additions to the State 4-H Horse Show this year, including a new class: Quad Drill; jackpots for speed, roping and ranch sorting events; and expanded scholarship opportunities including the Hi Pro feed incentive program. We will be sharing more information about these events during the validation period to encourage 4-Hers in the horse project to validate and participate at the district and state horse shows.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask and as always, Thank You for all that you do!
