The competitive team program at Texas A&M University is rich in tradition, attracting students from across the nation. The program can be traced to the early 1900s with the first Texas A&M University Livestock Judging Team, and has achieved more than 30 national championships, including three consecutive livestock teams from 2002-2004 and a total of 15 national champion meat judging teams. The Texas A&M University Horse Judging Team has won more national championships than any other school, boasting 28. By competing on these teams, students acquire work ethic, public speaking capabilities, leadership development, and critical thinking skills.

In 2003, the Texas A&M University Judging Team Photo Gallery debuted to commemorate 100 years of Animal Science at Texas A&M University. The gallery is located in the Kleberg Center, and features a complete photo archive of all livestock, meat, and wool judging teams from 1903. Each team photo is framed and displayed with team member captions and contest results. The photo gallery is open to the public; visitor parking is available in the west campus parking garage. The success of this project is due in large to the cooperation and support of former team members who shared photos, provided team results, and offered help in locating former team members.
