The 30 acre SDI system was constructed for research purposes on the Smith Farm in Munday, Texas. Construction began in late April and was completed in May 2002, with the first crop studies being planted on May 31, 2002. The system consists of 66, 16-row by 300 ft irrigation stations divided across four tiers. Each station has the capability of watering on 40 or 80 in centers. In addition, each station is equipped with water meters so the water demand at each station can be recorded.
