One Day 4H
By Randy Arris, Jr.
One Day 4-H is one day for all the 4-H members, parents, leaders, and volunteers to step out into their communities and county and say “thank you” by giving back for them more than 103 years of support to 4-H in Texas. This day of community service is whatever each 4-H members, club, or county 4-H Program wants it to be. It could be as simple as picking up trash and mowing the lawn for senior citizens to elaborate as hosting a 5K Walk/Run and raising money for a cause.
Fannin county 4H members chose to participate in Great Days of Service for Bonham, October 17, 2015. There were several community service projects to choose. The 4-H members began their day at Bonham Family Life Center. After the delicious breakfast the 4-H club was separated into groups based on the community service activity they were doing. The club spent three hours doing their activities they signed up for. Since there were 22 members, Fannin County 4H donated 66 hours during this individual community service initiative.
There were several opportunities for the 4-H group to participate. Most of the 4-Her’s signed up for Willow Wild Cemetery cleanup but some also signed up for the Food Drive. Not only did they help their community but they also witnessed multiple graves of soldiers that were from WWI and WWII which really brought into aspect what they were doing. They were amazed to find sites sating back to the 1800’s which helped them feel how much history they were restoring. Being surrounded by so much history really made it better for everyone who participated. After the activities were completed the day was concluded with a lunch served by a local church.
There were multiple 4-H family’s that participated in the One Day 4-H community cleanup. The following members participated: Dacie Bradley, Dawanda Bradley, Karen Lee, Jenna Lee, Alicen Lee, Carson Kincade, Kate Kincade, Elisha Silva, Randy Arris, Jr., Randy Arris Sr., LaTonia Arris, Carson Arris, Caleb Arris, Jay Smith, Gabriel Hanson, Danielle Berg, Preston Berg, Duaine Kincade, Hope Ball, Audrey Arie, Bethany Arie, and Carrie Kincade.
