Research Emphasis

Dr. Zhuping Sheng, Professional Engineer (P.E.) and Professional Hydrologist (P.H.), is a Professor at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at El Paso, and Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, The Texas A&M University.  His areas of expertise are in analysis of hydrological processes, numerical modeling, integrated water resources management, managed aquifer recharge, and aquifer mechanics. His current research focuses on irrigation system efficiency, conjunctive uses and management of surface and groundwater resources and evaluation of reclaimed water systems by working in collaboration with federal, state and local agencies. He is leading the development of the Rio Grande Project coordinated water resources database and Geographic Information System and numerical models being used for protection of water quality and conjunctive uses of shared transboundary surface water and groundwater in an arid region. He has conducted water resources research and consulting work as well as professional services in China, Georgia, Mexico, Qatar and the United States. He has served and is currently serving on the several technical committees of National Research Council of National Academies, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Resources Association and other organizations.
