Research Emphasis
Dr. Torell specializes in environmental and natural resource economics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in agricultural economics from New Mexico State University, and recently received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wyoming. Prior to joining the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center at El Paso, his research has included work in the evaluation of renewable sources of electricity, issues of transmission congestion in the electricity sector, analysis of greenhouse gas policy in the electricity sector, the valuation of ecosystem services on rangelands, and water sharing institutions in Afghanistan. During his time at the University of Wyoming, he received the Attilio and Hedy Bedont Outstanding Graduate Student Award, as well as the Promoting Intellectual Engagement in the First Year Award for outstanding teaching.
