The Interplay Between Environmental Exposures and Mental Health Outcomes: February 2-3, 2021 | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM both days
There is growing evidence that the environment can play an important role in mental health—yet research into the effects of environmental stressors rarely focuses on behavioral and mental health outcomes. FEMA Offers Exercise Assistance Through the National Exercise Program
FEMA’s National Exercise Division is now accepting nominations to the National Exercise Program (NEP). The program offers no-cost assistance for exercise design, development, execution and evaluation to validate capabilities across all mission areas. Fall nomination round submissions are due by Nov.1 and decisions will be sent by Dec. 1. The NEP will hold additional exercise nomination rounds in spring and fall of 2021. FEMA will host two 60-minute webinars for state, local, tribal, territorial and other whole community partners to discuss the nomination process. The webinars will be held at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 6. The webinar topics will also include the support that NEP can provide for conducting exercises in a COVID-19 environment and the proposed 2021-2022 Principals’ Strategic Priorities. This 2-day national online conversation took place August 7-8, 2019. Subject matter experts from around the country discussed the most effective approaches to ending homelessness for individuals who have serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. The summit sessions promoted collaboration across systems, drew on scientific evidence, and included practical tools and cutting-edge strategies for communities and agencies.

URA the HUD Way
This 8-part web-based modular training course provides basic information and resources to HUD grantees and funding recipients on URA requirements for HUD funded projects. Module 1 provides an overview of the URA. Module 2 provides an overview of another Federal law known as Section 104(d), which applies to CDBG and HOME funded projects. Modules 3 through 8 provide greater technical training on various URA topics.

Last week, FEMA released Jan Peelen’s PrepTalk “Living with Water: How the Netherlands Prevents Flood Disasters.” Peelen tells the story of the Netherland’s historic battle with flooding and shares how the Dutch are learning to live with water. As a representative of the Dutch Ministry for Infrastructure and Water Management at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Peelan advises U.S. entities on resilience, urban planning, and infrastructure and coordinates all water-related efforts of the Dutch diplomatic network in the U.S.
