County Budget Recommendation

COUNTY BUDGET DEVELOPMENT

It is that time of year when you and your co-workers should begin developing budget requests for your upcoming county fiscal year. The following items are due to the district office by May 15, 2024.

BUDGET RECOMMENDATION FORM (CBR) – Return one typed copy – Your current county budget (CB-5) is reflected in the “PRESENT” column on the attached CBR form. Requested funding for each item for the upcoming fiscal year is then entered by you in the “PROPOSED” column. The form includes a column for county Longevity pay, where applicable; the Salary column is not to include longevity pay.

Miscellaneous items may be added as appropriate. If a line item currently under Miscellaneous Expenses is no longer needed, enter “0″ in the proposed column, but DO NOT delete the item, yourself.

County agents do not sign the CBR form; only the District Administrator. The form is then forwarded to County Programs Office for verification, after which budget request letters, if requested, will be developed by me for your presentation to the county commissioners’ court.

COVER LETTER, signed by ALL AGENTS – A cover letter signed by all agents is to accompany the budget request as it is submitted to the district office. This is to ensure that all agents are aware of, and are in agreement with, the proposed budget for the upcoming county fiscal year. The letter should contain a brief explanation for requested increases, other than travel. Also, please include the date of your budget presentation to the court so if requested, I can provide you with budget recommendation letters to the county judge and commissioners ahead of time. If you do not request a letter one will not be provided. If you prefer, I will be glad to assist you with your budget presentation to the court.
