District 3 Expectations for Dress & Conduct
In general, Extension Agents are expected to dress and conduct themselves in a manner that brings favor upon the agency and the Texas A&M System. Standards vary depending on the setting and the nature of the work to be done. Below are general guidelines for dress and should be applied to the situation. Dress at the county office should be business casual.
Business Professional
For Men
- Business suit with collared shirt
- Nice slacks or pressed khaki pants with collared shirt
- Sports coat or jacket & tie (can always be removed)
- Leather shoes/boots with matching belt
For Women
- Business suit or dress
- Slacks or mid-length skirt with blazer or jacket and blouse
- Leather flats, low‐heeled shoes or dressy boots
Business Casual Attire
For Men
- Nice slacks or pressed khaki pants
- Collared shirt or polo/golf shirt
- Sports Jacket
- Leather shoes/boots
For Women
- Nice slacks, pressed khaki pants or mid-length skirt
- blazer or jacket and blouse, or sweater set
- Leather flats, low‐heeled shoes or dressy boots
Casual Attire
For Men
- Pressed khaki pants or clean, pressed jeans
- Collared shirt or polo/golf shirt
- Casual shoes or boots
For Women
- Cotton pants or clean, pressed jeans, capri pants
- Cotton blouse, collared shirt or polo/golf shirt
- Casual shoes or boots
Camp Casual Attire (Adapted from University of Kentucky Extension)
This level is very relaxed and not a typical, acceptable category of dress for the workplace.
There are occasional Extension work environments that would find this dress acceptable, such
as 4-H Camps.
For Men
- Jeans, shorts (below thigh)
- Collared shirt or polo/golf shirt, organizational/university t-shirts
- Athletic shoes, sandals, flip-flops
For Women
- Jeans, shorts (below thigh), capris
- Cotton blouse, collared shirt or polo/golf shirt, organizational/university t-shirts
- Athletic shoes, sandals, flip-flops
A few thoughts on dress (taken directly from employee handbook):
- Dress one notch better than your audience.
- There is no good reason for wearing shabby, torn, soiled, out‐of‐date, or untidy clothes.
- Nice, comfortable, and professional looking clothes are generally not any more expensive than the kind that doesn’t project a professional appearance.
District 3 Expectations:
For all indoor contests in which parents, volunteers and/or 4-Her’s are present, business professional dress is required.
An exception to this rule: for contests held in a show barn with no heat/air conditioning, business casual dress is allowed
For all outdoor contests involving live animals or shooting sports, casual dress is allowed.
For all district meetings, professional dress is required.
If there is a special situation, in which this policy needs to be adjusted, an email will be sent beforehand.
