In 2012 the faculty associated with the Bioenvironmental Sciences (BESC) degree program formed the BESC Professional Board.  The inaugural Board consists of former students from the BESC program, established in 1992 in the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, and other environmental professionals with connections to the program and the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) student chapter. The BESC Professional Board members represent various environmental professions the current BESC students seek to join.

The mission for the Bioenvironmental Sciences Professional Board is : Preparing excellent environmental professionals responsive to industry needs in the 21st century.

Starting in September 2012 the BESC Professional Board has established bylaws, formed committees with charters, established and contributed to an Endowed Excellence Fund for BESC, and has begun engaging the current students and faculty about enhancing the curriculum and internship and employment opportunities.
