Student Worker Positions

Undergraduate student worker positions are often available to provide program and project support. Students should have a strong interest in municipal parks and excellent organizational and communication skills.

Student workers typically:

  • Assist with organization and development of web resources including print materials, links, and podcasts.
  • Organize and maintain social media efforts.
  • Arrange meetings with Extension unit members and collaborators.
  • Edit publications and print materials.
  • Organize and distribute information to constituents.
  • Assist with researching, compiling, and creating educational materials.
  • Provide research project support such as:
    • Collecting and organizing contact information.
    • Assisting with survey design.
    • Assisting with survey distribution.
    • Enter and clean data.
    • Provide office assistance for programs and general communication.
    • Assist with other duties and projects as needed.

Project Examples

  • Creating a podcast series
  • Assisting with workshop planning and delivery
  • Assisting with park counting, master plans, and needs assessments, and on-site survey projects.

Applicants should submit:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Writing sample
  • 1 letter of recommendation from an Professor/Instructor
  • 1 letter of recommendation from a current or previous employer

Independent Studies

Undergraduate students enrolled at Texas A&M University are encouraged to complete independent study work related to the goals of Extension’s Urban and Municipal Park programs. Independent study work must be agreed upon and approved by Dr. Jamie Rae Walker. If you’re interested in an independent study, please email urbanparks@ag.tamu.edu.
