Workshops

Workshops are extended educational opportunities which provide both education on the topic as well as time to design projects to be completed in your community or department. For more information or to receive an e-mail about registration, please submit a request.

The following workshops are designed to guide practitioners, volunteers, park or trail boards, friends groups, and community leaders.

Parks 101: 

Takes a look at the fundamentals & trends for planning & managing feasible & successful parks, trails & open spaces. The two-hour program highlights the value of mapping local assets, priorities, & factors to design, program, & operate locally-driven, feasible parks & open spaces that provide health, civic & environmental impacts for your community. This session will review key tactics used over time to affordably plan & maintain parks in communities of all sizes.  Time to visit local parks is optional but preferred. 

Small Community Park or Trail Master Planning: 

 Learn how to compile or update Community’s Parks and Open Space or Trail Master Plans. In addition to overview and instruction, the workshop will assist attendees in developing project plans. 

Citizen Input Process Design:

Learn how to design and plan a basic process for citizen input. 

Citizen Engagement Continuum: 

Learn the fundamentals to citizen engagement and design an outreach continuum for your agency, organization, or community.  

CPTED  (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design):

Learn CPTED basics, evaluate a site, and devise related action steps. One day or two workshops are available subject to trainer availability.

Maintenance Planning: 

This course is designed to motivate you to start or update maintenance and operations planning. The workshop reviews the value of maintenance plans, discussed key components of maintenance plans, helps you determine what is meaningful for your organization, and allows you time to brainstorm how to get started on maintenance planning in your organization. 

Playabilty:

Review best practices and outcomes for Pop up Play, Painted Places, Open Streets, and Mobile Play programs. The workshop guides local groups through site or community evaluation techniques and related action planning steps to incorporate play into the daily fabric of their organization or community. . One day or two workshops are available subject to trainer availability.

Walkability:

Reviews best practices and outcomes for Walkability. The workshop guides local groups through walking audits, site or community evaluation techniques, and related action planning steps to incorporate best practices in Walkability in their organization or community. One day or two workshops are available subject to trainer availability.

Social and Behavioral Marketing:

Learn the fundamentals of social and behavioral marketing and how to have purpose with your messaging and communication. 

Survey Design: 

Learn how to and practice designing basic surveys and data collection plans for citizen input.
