Sustainable Stream Management in Parks Course

Urban streams, like those that run through city parks, are usually heavily eroded. This erosion, along with urbanization and increased water flow, can cause streams to lose ecosystem function.

This course will introduce you to the causes and symptoms of stream deterioration, options for stream restoration, and basic principles of stream management.  After you finish this course, you will be able to:

  • identify stream functions
  • identify what causes instability
  • recognize channel evolution patterns
  • recognize bank erodibility factors
  • describe natural stream restoration options
  • describe stream stabilization options
  • recognize the impact of vegetation and mowing
