According to the Diabetes Education Awareness & Prevention program of Prairie View A&M University/Cooperative Extension Program, regular physical activity can help your heart and lungs work better, lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol, lower blood sugar, and help your appetite and weight. What’s more, it can help you relax, feel less tense, sleep better, and feel more energetic and good about yourself.
Below are suggestions for getting and staying physically fit.
KEEP MOVING! Start slow and work your way up!
Strive to do 30 minutes of activity everyday. If you are short on time, try three 10-minute periods.
- Use stairs instead of elevators;
- Get off the bus a few stops early and walk a bit;
- Avoid parking near entrances when shopping;
