All of these stormwater management practices are designed to collect and naturally treat rain water falling on a single site. Each practice is designed to capture a set amount of water (say the amount of water that falls on ⅓ of the site during a 1-inch rainfall) in order to slow the water down; spread it out; and soak it in. The collected water can evaporate, be infiltrated into the soil, filtered then directed into the storm drain system, or held for later use.
Site-scale practices can be incorporated in to new development or retrofitted onto an existing site.
