Interested in learning more about green infrastructure? Do you need more resources to help you plan your project or find examples for inspiration? We have compiled a list of resources at the state, national and international level. These groups provide information about water quality, natural resource management, climate resilience, green infrastructure and other subjects that compliment the work we do here at Green Infrastructure for Texas.

Houston Galveston Area Council

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is a 13-county council of municipal governments that come together to guide regional development wisely and manage change constructively.  

Low Impact Development

 

 

Watershed-Based Plans

 

The Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Designing for Impact project promotes the use of Low Impact Development (LID) techniques in new development.

Watershed protections plans are voluntary, locally led approaches to address state water quality standard (SWQS) impairments along with other water related concerns.

Texas Parks and Wildlife

Texas Parks & Wildlife manages and conserves the natural and cultural resources of Texas and provides hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. Land and Water Resources Land and water management educational information and practical resources.

North Central Texas Council of Governments

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. Green Infrastructure Program

NCTCOG promotes the planning and construction of green or sustainable infrastructure in the region to help reduce carbon emissions, urban heat islands, and stormwater runoff.  

This resource provides innovative Green Infrastructure practices, example projects, and ways of incorporating Green Infrastructure into public programs.

Texas Water Development Board The Texas Water Development Board works to ensure Texans have access to sufficient, clean, and affordable water supplies that foster a healthy economy and environment by providing leadership, information, education and support for the responsible development of water in Texas.

Texas General Land Office
The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.

Living Shorelines

 

Informational page focused on the Texas Coastal Resiliency Master Plan.

The Texas General Land Office works in partnership with numerous stakeholders, State, and local agencies to protect and enhance the coastal region through the Texas Coastal Nonpoint Source Pollution Program.

An educational resource for guidance on using living shorelines as an alternative to traditional shoreline stabilization techniques.

Gulf of Mexico Alliance
Since 2004, the five Gulf states have been the foundation of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance, a partnership network dedicated to working on issues common to the Gulf region. Resources GOMA provides resources for mapping and monitoring water and coastal resilience factors in the Gulf of Mexico.

San Antonio River Authority
Funded by property taxes, the authority upholds a commitment to “providing safe, clean and enjoyable creeks and rivers,” which in its 83 years has led to a multitude of partnerships, research initiatives, and projects that integrate public health with ecosystems and  sustainability with economic development. Nature Based Solutions A wealth of green infrastructure and low impact development resources including a Low Impact Development Technical Design Manual and a green infrastructure map.

Texas Water Resources Institute

A program of the Texas A&M University System, The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) has helped solve Texas’ water issues through research, education and outreach for 72 years.

Texas A&M AgriLife Learn

A Texas A&M University System resource, AgriLife Learn provides free and paid training courses, case studies, and educational resources. Environmental and Natural Resources: Water A learning platform hosting case studies and trainings on water topics from flood control to agriculture.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Service Dallas
The Texas A&M AgriLife Center at Dallas is a scientific research campus and headquarters for public teaching. Texas A&M AgriLife researchers and extension specialists at Dallas work to advance four areas: urban agriculture and forestry, water and land resources, turfgrass and urban landscapes, and healthy living. Urban Ecological Engineering  Innovative approaches to water quantity and quality issues to reduce the impact of urbanization on nature.
