Virtual Freshwater Fishing Tournament -FREE
📅 March 29 – April 30, 2026
👧🧒 Youth Ages 1–18
Get the kids outdoors this spring! Youth can fish with family, learn about conservation, and show their creativity through art and short educational videos.
🎯 Age Divisions:
• Juniors: 1–11
• Seniors: 12–18
A fun, low‑cost way to enjoy nature and build environmental stewardship. 🌱

Benefits to Fort Bend Kids:

  1. Removes Barriers and Creates Access

Making the tournament free ensures that all kids can participate, regardless of family income, access to equipment, or prior experience. Fishing can sometimes feel out of reach due to costs, so removing entry fees helps level the playing field and encourages first‑time anglers.

  1. Promotes Outdoor Skills and Healthy Lifestyles

Fishing gets kids outside, active, and engaged with nature, which is especially important as screen time increases. Youth learn patience, focus, and responsibility—skills that carry over into school and life—while developing a positive connection to natural resources in Fort Bend County.

  1. Encourages Learning Through Multiple Ways to Participate

By including:

  • Longest fish – teaches goal-setting, respectful competition, and proper fish handling
  • Most variety of fish – introduces biodiversity, species identification, and local ecosystems
  • Fishing art – allows artistic youth to express what fishing means to them
  • Short fishing video – builds communication, storytelling, and technology skills

the tournament reaches many types of learners, not just those who catch the biggest fish. This inclusivity reflects 4‑H’s philosophy that every child has strengths.

  1. Builds Environmental Awareness and Stewardship

Kids learn about conservation, ethical fishing practices, and protecting local waterways. Catch‑and‑release principles, species diversity, and habitat awareness help youth understand their role in caring for Fort Bend’s natural resources.

  1. Supports Youth Development Aligned With 4‑H Values

Because the event is organized by a Fort Bend 4‑H agent, the tournament intentionally supports 4‑H life skills such as:

  • Confidence and decision‑making
  • Responsibility and teamwork
  • Leadership and creativity

It’s not just about winning—it’s about growth, character, and learning by doing.

  1. Strengthens Family and Community Connections

Fishing is an activity families can enjoy together. The tournament encourages positive adult involvement, community pride, and shared experiences that help build stronger relationships between youth, families, and local organizations.

  1. Creates a Positive, Memorable Youth Experience

For many kids, this tournament may be:

  • Their first time fishing
  • Their first competition
  • Their first experience creating art or video for judging

Those moments can spark lifelong interests, future 4‑H involvement, or careers in natural resources, media, or the arts.

In short:
This free fishing tournament benefits Fort Bend kids by combining outdoor education, creativity, inclusion, and youth development—while staying true to the 4‑H mission of helping young people reach their full potential.
