Dr. Zhuping Sheng is an Associate Professor at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center
at El Paso and Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering. He is a registered
Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas and a Certified Professional Hydrologist (P.H.).

He is an explorer for alternative, sustainable water sources in arid and semi-arid regions in Texas and around world. His areas of expertise include hydrology, integrated management strategies of regional water resources, numerical modeling of hydrologic processes, and aquifer mechanics.

He is leading the multi-state and international development of the US-MX transboundary water resources assessment program, development of a coordinated water resources database and GIS website, and development of surface and groundwater models being used for protection of water quality and extension of the useful “life” of stressed aquifers. He is also conducting multidisciplinary research on river operations and salinity management based on a better understanding of the interaction of human activities and the hydrologic processes by working with regional stakeholders as well as research on mitigating climate variability impacts.

He has served and chaired several technical committees including the National Research Council of National Academy of Science, NSF Panel, and other professional organizations. He is the Past President of the Association of Oversea Chinese Agricultural, Biological and Food Engineers. He received his Doctoral degree in Hydrogeology/Hydrology from the University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada; Master of Science degree in Engineering Geology from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, and Bachelor of Engineering degree in Hydrogeology/Engineering Geology from Tongji University, Shanghai, China.
