LUBBOCK – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Lubbock Ag Committee has set their 2014 Turfgrass Management Short Course for April 9 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock, located at 1102 E. Farm-to-Market Road 1294.
The program will run from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
The primary audience will be professional grounds and landscape managers, but homeowners can also benefit, said Robert Scott, AgriLife Extension agent in Lubbock County.
“The short course is an educational opportunity for anyone interested in the fundamentals of turfgrass physiology and management,” Scott said.
The day’s topics will include: Introductory Turfgrass Physiology; Turfgrass Species- Identification, Selection and Establishment; Turfgrass Management-Mowing, Fertility and other Cultural Practices; Turfgrass Water Use and Proper Irrigation Practices; Soil Physical and Chemical Properties; and Turfgrass Pest Management-Identification and Control of Weeds, Diseases and Insects.
Speakers will include: Dr. Casey Reynolds, AgriLife Extension turfgrass specialist, College Station; Bill Rice, Certified Master Gardener, Lubbock; Vikram Baliga, AgriLife Extension horticulturist, Lubbock; Dr. Joey Young, Texas Tech University department of plant and soils science, Lubbock; Mark Brown, AgriLife Extension agent in Lubbock County; and Scott.
Individual registration is $25 and includes snacks and lunch. To preregister and guarantee lunch, those planning to attend should call the AgriLife Extension office in Lubbock County by April 7 at 806-775-1680. Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available. Scott reminds those seeking the units to bring their pesticide license or license number to ensure proper credit as a driver’s license number alone will no longer be accepted.
