NOAA is predicting an above-normal hurricane season, forecasting 17 &#8211; 25 named storms (winds higher than 39 mph), 8-13 hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher) and 4-7 major hurricanes (Cats 3, 4, or 5 with winds of 111 mph or higher). The sea-surface temperatures are already exceeding last year\u2019s temperatures. The figure above shows the differences in temperatures from this year and previous years.\u00a0 With all this in mind, NOAA is predicting an 85% above-normal season. The season stretches from June 1st &#8211; November 30th.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. Seasonal Drought Outlook is predicting drought remaining in the Hill Country as well as drought persistence and development in West and Far West Texas. This projection is through August and can be seen in the figure below.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/droughtoutlook.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1871 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/droughtoutlook.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"776\" height=\"637\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/droughtoutlook.jpg 1488w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/droughtoutlook-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/droughtoutlook-1024x840.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/droughtoutlook-768x630.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the three month seasonal temperature outlook, we are looking at above average temperature rates for the lower states. Texas is ranging from 50 &#8211; 70% above normal temperatures. You can see more in the figure below, however, if you have been outside in Texas lately, you know it is going to be a hot summer!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/seasonaltemps.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1872 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/seasonaltemps.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"776\" height=\"646\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/seasonaltemps.jpg 1472w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/seasonaltemps-300x250.jpg 300w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/seasonaltemps-1024x853.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2024\/06\/seasonaltemps-768x640.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The seasonal precipitation outlook through August is dry. The East side of the State is looking at higher than normal chances of precipitation, while the West side of the State has lower than normal chances of precipitation. The middle of the State has equal chances.
