These projects will combine the expertise of Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Research and Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Extension Service to provide livestock producer support and increase the use of conservation principles on grazing lands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Morgan Treadwell will lead research on better understanding the phytochemical response of resprouting shrub species to prescribed fire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis study will focus on common, invasive shrub species that are capable of resprouting following prescribed fire and are frequently the target of land management efforts.\u201d \u2013 Treadwell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1272\" src=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"661\" height=\"554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-1.png 940w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-1-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/westtexasrangelands\/files\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-1-768x644.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 661px) 100vw, 661px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once land owners can better understand the chemical responses of certain plants, they will be able to develop adaptive strategies following prescribed fire to control plants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her past research, she has seen that concentrations of certain chemicals in redberry juniper are lowered following a prescribed burn and are more palatable to livestock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, Treadwell and her partners will also develop a toxic plant app to assist beginning farmers and ranchers.
