{"id":5998,"date":"2018-09-19T13:53:32","date_gmt":"2018-09-19T18:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/urbantarrant4h\/?p=5998"},"modified":"2018-09-19T13:54:19","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T18:54:19","slug":"tcu-4-h-food-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/urbantarrant4h\/2018\/09\/19\/tcu-4-h-food-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"TCU 4-H Food Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sent<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dear 4-H Members and Families,<\/p>\n<p>There has been a lot of interest in the 4-H Food Challenge since the year started.\u00a0 I am excited that so many clubs and teams are forming.\u00a0 Please read the following points to find all of the information you need to have a successful Food Challenge project!<\/p>\n<p><strong>County Contest and Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please use the <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/nYotPyOCqPprxzwn2\">Food Challenge Registration<\/a> form to sign up your teams.\u00a0 Registration will close on October 17<sup>th<\/sup> at 5 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>If your team members change, you can use the link in the email confirmation to keep your registration updated.<\/li>\n<li>The TCU\u2019s Department of Nutritional Sciences will host the county contest on Saturday, November 10<sup>th<\/sup> from 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>TCU can only host 10 teams.<\/li>\n<li>If we have more than 10 teams register, we will need to split one or more of the age divisions or teams that register later out to compete on Saturday, October 27<sup>th<\/sup> from 7:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the county Extension office<\/li>\n<li>If we are required to split the competition, we will allow the top teams from October 27<sup>th<\/sup> to also compete at TCU on November 10<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<li>Our county contest will allow Junior, Intermediate, and Senior teams.\u00a0 District will only have Junior\/Intermediate and Senior teams.<\/li>\n<li>Teams must be composed of 3 to 4 members for Junior or Intermediate teams.\u00a0 Senior teams can have 3,4, or 5 members.\u00a0 If you need an exception to this rule, contact me ASAP.\u00a0 The state contest will only allow 3 or 4 members for the Senior teams that qualify.<\/li>\n<li>There will be a $10 charge per team for this event.\u00a0 This will defray the cost of the ingredients for the contest.\u00a0 This payment will be required by the day of the contest or the team will not be allowed to compete.\u00a0 Checks can be made to <em>Tarrant County 4-H ALA <\/em>and note Food Challenge and the team\u2019s name on the check.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/texas4-h.tamu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Explore_FN_FoodChallenge.pdf\">Food Challenge Explore Guide<\/a> is a great resource for veteran and new teams.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/texas4-h.tamu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019-Food-Challenge-Rules-and-Guidelines_8.20.18.pdf\">Food Challenge Rules and Guidelines<\/a> are the latest rules.<\/li>\n<li>Click on Contest on the <a href=\"https:\/\/texas4-h.tamu.edu\/projects\/food-nutrition\/\">Food &amp; Nutrition <\/a>page of Texas 4-H for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Survey and Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I will be sending a before and after survey to all teams.\u00a0 It will be very important that all youth competing to complete the surveys.\u00a0 It will be the responsibility of the coach to encourage the youth to complete the surveys.<\/li>\n<li>All coaches should use a sign in sheet from the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=0B8Gp4SzUo50wbmx2dTJyS09ZR28\">Club Manger&#8217;s Folder<\/a> for each meeting.\u00a0 These sheets should be turned into the club manager and kept with the club records.<\/li>\n<li>The coach will be responsible for reporting a summary of attendance for each project meeting to the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1hHagUzQyAF1MR8IXIQKMTZZ1slc0DaULatophnu0GKg\">Club Activity Report<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If a coach would like to report their preparation time as a 4-H volunteer, I encourage you to do so with the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1eHfqDVdfhsnx_Chcrq1RKzg8Vqf91unWCa3uDRz6pt8\">Individual Activity Report<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please let me know if you have any questions.\u00a0 The TCU students are excited to be working with our 4-H members and are looking forward to a great competition.<\/p>\n<p>Kent DeCardenas<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sent Dear 4-H Members and Families, There has been a lot of interest in the 4-H Food Challenge since the year started.\u00a0 I am excited that so many clubs and teams are forming.\u00a0 Please read the following points to find all of the information you need to have a successful Food Challenge project!
