Facts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We know that families in Tarrant County have many choices when it comes to selecting activities for their kids.\u00a0 Listed below are some key points about the 4-H program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Age of Members:<\/strong> 3<sup>rd<\/sup> graders to 12<sup>th<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">4-H clubs are open to youth who have reached 8 years of age and have entered 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grade and have not reached the maximum age of 18 years old and are still in the 12<sup>th<\/sup> grade as of September 1<sup>st<\/sup> of the current 4-H year.\u00a0 Many clubs include activities for children in kindergarten through 2<sup>nd<\/sup> grades as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Boys or Girls:<\/strong> 4-H clubs are open to boys and girls both.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Clubs and activities are coeducational so families can plan one set of activities for all of their kids.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Disability:<\/strong> Youth with disabilities are encouraged to participate.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Any youth or member who has a disability that may require any type of accommodation to participate in a 4-H activity can contact the organizer.\u00a0 Please contact the club manager or the 4-H Extension Agent at least two weeks prior to an event and options can be discussed and plans made so that all youth can enjoy 4-H.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Cost:<\/strong> $25 or $30 per child annually.\u00a0 $10 per clover kids annually.\u00a0 $10 per adult volunteer annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Annual membership per year is $25 if enrolled between August 15<sup>th<\/sup> and October 31<sup>st<\/sup>.\u00a0 $30 if enrolled after November 1<sup>st<\/sup>.\u00a0 Clover Kids, youth in kindergarten through 2<sup>nd<\/sup> grade, can be enrolled for $10 per year but are not considered members of 4-H until they turn 8 years old and have entered 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grade.\u00a0 Some projects or programs at the clubs may involve extra costs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Adult volunteers are required to pay $10 per year and it is encouraged that every family have at least one adult that serves in a volunteer capacity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Many clubs organize fund raisers to pay for memberships and other accommodations are available to those who find membership fees a financial hurdle to participation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>How to enroll: <\/strong>4-H Online.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Enrollment in 4-H is handled on a statewide basis through the 4-H Online website at <a href=\"https:\/\/texas.4honline.com\">https:\/\/texas.4honline.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Once youth are registered with the state and have joined a club, they can participate in most 4-H activities in the county.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Meetings:<\/strong> Monthly and weekly.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Clubs normally have a business meeting once a month and take a break during the summer.\u00a0 Project meetings may occur once a week for a six to eight week period.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Commitment: <\/strong>Attend business meetings and complete one project a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Families are encouraged to attend all club business meetings and members are expected to complete one project a year.\u00a0 Parents or caregivers are expected to accompany their children at meetings.\u00a0 4-H is a volunteer driven organization.\u00a0 While most clubs are managed by a parent and many parents serve as project leaders, there is no requirement for parents to do so.\u00a0 But please keep in mind that a club\u2019s success and a member\u2019s success can be measured by the number of people that take an interest and assist in whatever capacity they are capable.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>The Leaders: <\/strong>The youth members are the leaders of 4-H.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">While 4-H would be nothing without the dedicated adult volunteers who lead projects and manage clubs, it is the youth officers that lead the clubs.\u00a0 By serving as officers and being the voting members of their club, youth learn how a deliberative body comes to consensus and enacts decisions.\u00a0 Officers from each club come together to serve the county in the County Youth Council. Officers can then go on to serve on District and State Councils.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Volunteers: <\/strong>Screened and trained to keep youth safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">All adult volunteers who serve 4-H must take training to keep youth safe and have a background check performed on a regular basis.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Projects: <\/strong>14 broad categories with specialized projects in each.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Project categories include:<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Animals-livestock, horses, dog training, veterinary sciences, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Biological Science-entomology, biology, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Civic Education-citizenship and global communication<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Communication &amp; Arts-theater and performing arts<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Community Service<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Consumer &amp; Family Science-clothing &amp; textiles, family life, consumer education, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Environmental Education-natural resources, forestry, shooting sports, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Food &amp; Nutrition<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Health<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Leadership-public speaking, youth entrepreneurship, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Personal Safety<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Plant Science-horticulture, soil &amp;crop science, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Technology &amp; Engineering-robotics, rocketry, STEM, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">4-H bases its learning experience on members engaging and completing projects.\u00a0 Members can participate in projects in a group with their club, at the county level with youth from across the community, or individually.\u00a0 All project areas listed have curriculum available to assist volunteers and youth to start a new project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Benefits: <\/strong>Hands-on learning, community service, leadership development, opportunities to participate in livestock shows and other competitions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">4-H has always been a learn-through-doing program.\u00a0 A youth\u2019s knowledge is much deeper when youth learn new skills by actively practicing.\u00a0 Members are then able to share and test their knowledge by competing in 4-H.\u00a0 Club activities also stress the importance of community service and have fun opportunities for members to serve their neighbors.\u00a0 And one of the best benefits is the natural leaders that 4-H produces when youth serve as officers and organizers for their clubs and country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Scholarships: <\/strong>Offered by the Tarrant County Adult Leaders Association: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cWhen funds permit, the Tarrant County 4-H Adult Leaders Association offers scholarships to senior level members in Tarrant County 4-H.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/urbantarrant4h\/contests-scholarships\/\">Click here for more information and how to apply<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Texas 4-H Foundation Opportunity Scholarship<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Texas 4-H Foundation Opportunity Scholarship application is completed entirely online. Applicants will upload supplemental documents when completing the online application. A school official or counselor will be required to complete a portion of the online application in order for the application be considered complete.
