Tarrant County 4-H ALA Scholarship and County Awards Applications Now Open!

Dear 4-H Members and Families,

As we come to the end of the 4-H year, please be aware of the Record Book, County Award Application, and Scholarship Application process and deadline.  All three items must be submitted to the Extension Office by Monday, June 5th at 5 pm.

**Remember, when you are dropping items off or picking them up from the Extension Office, we will not be able to Validate Parking. **

County Criteria Award and Merit Award applications must be completed online:  Criteria Award Application and Merit Award Application.  For more information on the county awards, please see County Awards Overview.  Be sure to carefully read the below information regarding the awards.

Record Book Submission

  • Record books submission deadline for the current 4-H year is Monday, June 5, 2023, at 5 pm.  All record books must be submitted to the Extension Office by this time. Late entries will not be accepted.
  • Information on how to complete a record book may be found at Texas 4-H Record books.
  • Record books must meet all of the requirements as detailed in the Family Guide to the Texas 4-H Record Book.  Books that do not meet these requirements may not be presented to the judges.
  • Record books placing first in each grade division and category are eligible for advancement to the District IV Record Book competition. Youth qualifying for advancement to District will be notified by June 9, 2023, on the email you provided at time of  Recordbook registration.
  • If you wish to advance to District you will need to Register on 4-H Online & Submittable.  Registration MUST be done on both sites by midnight on June 14, 2023.

County Award Application

  • Deadline to apply for County Awards for the current 4-H year is Monday, June 5, 2023, at 5 pm.
  • All applications will be completed online.  If you have difficulty completing the online application, contact the office before the application deadline.
  • All County Awards require an application, which should be completed by the youth member.  There are three types of awards, Criteria-based, Merit-based and Community Service.  With the exception of the Community Service award, all awards necessitate submission of a record book.
  • Criteria based awards require applicants to reach certain benchmarks in 4-H and other activities.  These awards include Community Service, Rookie Award, Honor Roll, and Letterman.  To apply for Criteria Awards use the Criteria Award Application.  (please see County Awards Overview).
  • Merit based awards require applicants to attend an in-person interview with a panel of judges.  This panel will determine the award recipients in each category.  These awards include Outstanding New Member, 4-H Achievement, Danforth, and Gold Star*.  To apply for merit awards, use the Merit Award Application.   (Please see County Awards Overview).
  • Community Service Awards require both an application and submission of records.  These records should be submitted using the Community Service form, which may be found at Community Service Forms.  To apply for Community Service Awards use the Criteria Award Application. There is a place within the application to upload your Community Service Log

*Gold Star applicants:  All Gold Star applicants will be required to prepare a short, two-minute speech highlighting their 4-H career. Only those youth selected to receive the Gold Star will deliver their prepared speech at the County Awards Reception on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Scholarship Applications

  • The deadline to apply for Tarrant 4-H Adult Leaders Association scholarships for the current 4-H year is Monday, June 5, 2023, at 5 pm.
  • An email from the Adult Leaders Association regarding the scholarship program has been sent to all juniors and seniors.
  • Scholarship Application and Guidelines may be found at ALA Scholarship 2023.
  • Questions regarding scholarships should be directed to tarrant4hala@gmail.com.

Award Interviews

  • All Merit Based award applicantsand Scholarship applicants must attend an in-person interview*.
  • Award interviews will take place in-person on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the County Extension Office. The interviews will begin at 1 pm. and run into the afternoon dependent on the number of applicants*.
  • Special requests for interview times cannot be honored, although every attempt is made to schedule siblings together.
  • As all interview judges are volunteers, please respect their time by being punctual, prepared, and appropriately dressed.

County Awards Reception

  • The Tarrant County Awards Reception is Thursday, July 27th at 7 p.m.
  • The tentative location this year is Resource Connection at 1200 Circle Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76119.
  • All award and scholarship announcements will be made at this event.
