The ovipositor is an egg laying structure.<\/p>\n<p>Crickets feed on plant material and other insects. \u00a0They can cause damage to seedlings and be destructive to plants when in high numbers. \u00a0Males can become a nuisance with their sounds (there&#8217;s always that one cricket chirping at night when you&#8217;re trying to sleep). \u00a0Crickets can further become a nuisance when masses of them flock to lights at night or when piles of dead crickets form near doorways and other areas, causing a foul odor.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_167\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/urban-ipm\/files\/2015\/07\/20150708_085454.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-167\" class=\"wp-image-167 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/urban-ipm\/files\/2015\/07\/20150708_085454-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"20150708_085454\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/urban-ipm\/files\/2015\/07\/20150708_085454-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/urban-ipm\/files\/2015\/07\/20150708_085454-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cricket nymph.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cricket management is more easily accomplished in the summer months when nymphs, who cannot fly, are present (this is why I am writing this now!). \u00a0Most people do not try to do anything about crickets until they are in the adult stage and in large numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Before crickets invade your home try some of the following tips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn off lights at night, direct lighting away from the structure or use yellow bulbs which are less attractive to insects<\/li>\n<li>Seal cracks and crevices that give entrance to the structure with sealant<\/li>\n<li>Remove debris that is stacked near the structure<\/li>\n<li>Keep lawn and surrounding landscape tended<\/li>\n<li>Stuff weep holes with copper mesh (this will allow air flow into the wall voids, but will reduce accessibility)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prepare thy-selves people of Central Texas&#8230;..they are coming. \u00a0I&#8217;ve seen immature crickets around various buildings in Central Texas. \u00a0The adult masses are building.
