2016 Rolling Plains “In Blog” Wheat Field Day – at NE Oklaunion, TX

Photos were taken on 5/10/2016 a few days before the field day.

For grain yield and variety characteristic detail for wheat, please consult Texas Wheat Variety Trial Results publication.

PICK’S LIST: (Pick’s list in the Rolling Plains for 2015-2016 can be found HERE)

Given the data from UVT trial, these are the varieties we would choose to include and emphasize on our farm for wheat grain production. Picks are not necessarily the numerical top yielders as important disease resistance traits (leaf or stripe rust, wheat streak mosaic virus), insect tolerance (greenbugs, Russian wheat aphid), or standability can also be important varietal traits that enable a producer to better manage potential risk. We look for consistency of yields, e.g. the regularity with which an individual variety is in the top 25% of yield at each location.

WATCH LIST:

Based on 2014 and 2015 harvest data, a ‘Watch list’ was created. We will continue to evaluate 2016 yield data of the watch list to confirm whether these varieties will be included in our future pick’s list.
