We’re here with our first Round Up of 2020!\u00a0 We hope you all had a wonderful holiday.\u00a0 Here are a few of the ag law stories in the news over the past couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

*Man arrested for hauling marijuana, turns out it was legal hemp.<\/strong>\u00a0 The Texas Tribune recently published a story about a man who was arrested for hauling what authorities suspected as being marijuana.\u00a0 After testing was completed, it turns out that the plants were, as the man claimed, legal hemp.\u00a0 [Read article here<\/a>.]\u00a0 A similar issue occurred in South Carolina where 183 pounds of plant material was seized under suspicion of being marijuana, while drivers claim it was legal hemp.\u00a0 [Read article here<\/a>.]\u00a0 As our local news station reported, the legalization of hemp has created difficulties for law enforcement in these types of circumstances.\u00a0 As I noted on the news, these issues are not likely not going away and anyone involved in hemp production or transportation needs to be aware. *Free agricultural\u00a0employment law webinar.<\/strong> The National Agricultural Law Center will be hosting a free webinar on agricultural employment law titled, “2020 Vision: Finding Clarity on Labor and Employment Risks in the New Year” on January 15.\u00a0 Speakers are my friends Nate Huff and Brandon Davis–two of the best in the business.\u00a0 This will be great info.\u00a0 [Click here<\/a> for more information.]<\/p>\n

*Farm Credit partners with farm groups to create online training course on stress management<\/strong>.\u00a0 In December, Farm Credit announced that it would be partnering with a number of additional farm groups to create online training to help individuals who interact with farmers and ranchers to help them recognize signs of stress and offer assistance. *Interview on agricultural leases<\/strong>.\u00a0 I recently did an interview with James Hunt all about considerations for agricultural leases.\u00a0 You can listen here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Upcoming Programs<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I’ll kick off my presentations for 2020 next week.\u00a0 On Tuesday, I’ll be speaking via video on eminent domain to the Blacklands Income Growth Conference in Waco.\u00a0 On Thursday, we’ll be hosting a Ranchers Leasing Workshop<\/a> in Palestine.\u00a0 This will be our only leasing event in East Texas this year, so be sure to register<\/a> if you are in the area.\u00a0 On Friday, I’ll in Carthage at the East Texas Landowner’s Conference<\/a>, where I will discuss landowner liability, fence law, and eminent domain.<\/p>\n

The following week, I will be in Amarillo at the Southwest Beef Symposium<\/a> on Wednesday (January 22), Lubbock for the TAWC Water College<\/a> on Thursday (January 23), and Floyd County for the Caprock Crops Conference<\/a> on Friday (January 24).\u00a0 I’ll look forward to seeing many of you at these events.<\/p>\n
