{"id":5787,"date":"2018-02-15T17:20:09","date_gmt":"2018-02-15T23:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/?p=5787"},"modified":"2026-04-17T15:24:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:24:10","slug":"february-16-2018-weekly-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/2018\/02\/15\/february-16-2018-weekly-round\/","title":{"rendered":"February 16, 2018 Weekly Round Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Weatherford, Texas!\u00a0 Last night, I spoke at an Extension meeting in Denton County and today I&#8217;ll be speaking at the Country Land Stewardship Conference here in Weatherford.\u00a0 Welcome to those of you joining us from these events.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the ag law stories in the news this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Budget bill allows seed cotton to be a covered\u00a0commodity under Farm Bill.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0On February 9, Congress passed a budget that made seed cotton a covered commodity for the 2018 crop year under the current Farm Bill\u2019s Title I provisions.\u00a0 The legislation also does away with generic base acres, and instead allows landowners to reallocate those acres based on planting history.\u00a0 Once the provisions are in place, involved parties will have 90 days to make several decisions relating to seed cotton\u2019s inclusion in the Farm Bill.
