{"id":5247,"date":"2017-10-13T10:55:02","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T15:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/?p=5247"},"modified":"2026-04-17T15:24:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:24:43","slug":"october-13-2017-weekly-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/2017\/10\/13\/october-13-2017-weekly-round\/","title":{"rendered":"October 13, 2017 Weekly Round Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Dallas Love Field Airport, which has been my second home recently with all my travels.\u00a0 This week, I made my way to Stephenville to speak at Annie&#8217;s Project.\u00a0 Huge kudos to Jason Johnson for his work coordinating this intensive educational course for farm and ranch women and a big thanks to him for inviting me to participate.\u00a0 It is always one of my favorite programs of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ag law stories in the news this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Iowa &#8220;Ag Gag&#8221; statute challenged in federal court.<\/strong>\u00a0 Another constitutional challenge to an &#8220;ag gag&#8221; statute has been filed.\u00a0 A group of plaintiffs alleges that the Iowa law, passed in 2012, violates the First Amendment and Equal Protection Clause.\u00a0 [View\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2017\/10\/Complaint-here.pdf\">Complaint here<\/a> and article <a href=\"http:\/\/siouxcityjournal.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/iowa\/coalition-challenges-iowa-ag-gag-law\/article_5aba7561-30a9-5dfb-98d9-6fdcc23972dc.html\">here.<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p><strong>* US Supreme Court will hear oral argument in water law cases, including Texas v. New Mexico.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>This week, the US Supreme Court granted oral argument in two water law cases&#8211;Texas v. New Mexico\u00a0and Florida v. Georgia.\u00a0 You may recall that the Texas v. New Mexico case involves a dispute over waters of the Rio Grande River.\u00a0 [Read <a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/2013\/09\/18\/texas-water-wars-texas-v-new-mexico\/\">prior blog here<\/a>.]\u00a0 The case has been proceeding before a Special Master, but now the Justices will hear arguments from counsel.\u00a0 [Read article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jurist.org\/paperchase\/2017\/10\/supreme-court-adds-two-water-cases-to-docket.php\">here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5250\" src=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2017\/10\/us-supreme-court-building-2225766_640-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2017\/10\/us-supreme-court-building-2225766_640-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2017\/10\/us-supreme-court-building-2225766_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>* Article looks at the\u00a0impact of Texas Supreme Court decision in\u00a0<em>City of Lubbock v. Coyote Lake Ranch.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 My friend Jim Bradbury recently had an article published in the Texas Water Journal discussing the\u00a0<em>City of Lubbock v.
