The results are obtained by a survey of farmers conducted by the United States Department of Agricultural National Agricultural Statistics Service.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, NASS collects cash rent data by state for irrigated cropland, non-irrigated cropland, and pastureland. \u00a0In even numbered years, they break this data down by county. \u00a0The county-level reports should be out in September. \u00a0For now, we have the national and state-by-state results.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, cash rental rates have dropped in the last year. \u00a0Here are the results of the cash rent survey:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pastureland: $13\/acre (down $1.00 from 2015)<\/li>\n<li>Non-irrigated cropland: $125\/acre (down $8.00 from 2015)<\/li>\n<li>Irrigated cropland: $206\/acre (down $3.00 from 2015)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2016\/08\/Kay-fence.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4245\" src=\"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2016\/08\/Kay-fence-1024x753.jpg\" alt=\"Kay fence\" width=\"450\" height=\"331\" srcset=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2016\/08\/Kay-fence-1024x753.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2016\/08\/Kay-fence-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2016\/08\/Kay-fence-768x565.jpg 768w, https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2016\/08\/Kay-fence.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Texas, the results were mixed with an increase in irrigated cropland rates, but decreases for dryland cropland and pasture. \u00a0The survey results are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pastureland: \u00a0$6.80\/acre (down $0.70 from 2015)<\/li>\n<li>Non-irrigated cropland: \u00a0$27.00 (down $2.00 from 2015)<\/li>\n<li>Irrigated cropland: \u00a0$90.00 (up $8.00 from 2015)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In order to view the average lease rates for irrigated cropland, non-irrigated cropland, and pasture land in each of the 50 states, <a href=\"https:\/\/quickstats.nass.usda.gov\/results\/58B27A06-F574-315B-A854-9BF568F17652#7878272B-A9F3-3BC2-960D-5F03B7DF4826\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, I always encourage everyone to get all lease agreements in writing. \u00a0I recently co-authored the <a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/files\/2023\/09\/Ranchers-Agricultural-Leasing-Handbook.pdf\">Ranchers&#8217; Agricultural Leasing Handbook<\/a> that offers a wealth of information regarding law surrounding leases, landowner liability, and offers checklists and sample language on grazing\/pasture, hunting, and livestock leases. \u00a0For cropland leases, I recommend the resources at <a href=\"http:\/\/aglease101.org\/\">Ag Lease 101<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, if you are interested in more information on leasing, join Shannon Ferrell and I on Wednesday at 12 EST for our free webinar on Agricultural Leases. \u00a0For more information, <a href=\"http:\/\/nationalaglawcenter.org\/consortium\/webinars\/agleases\/\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ranchers Leasing Workshop is now available on demand to be taken anytime at your own pace.
