{"id":2790,"date":"2015-04-10T02:26:56","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T07:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/?p=2790"},"modified":"2026-04-17T15:30:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:30:20","slug":"april-10-2015-weekly-round-up-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrilife.org\/texasaglaw\/2015\/04\/10\/april-10-2015-weekly-round-up-2\/","title":{"rendered":"April 10, 2015 Weekly Round Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday found me in Menard, Texas talking to local landowners about hunting leases. \u00a0Thanks to Lisa Brown for the invitation and welcome to those of you joining the blog from that presentation!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the ag law stories in the news this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Midland County to Purchase Land for Groundwater Rights.<\/strong> \u00a0Midland County officials recently approved the purchase of land to secure additional groundwater for the county. \u00a0[Read article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrt.com\/news\/article_2bbbca56-d1a9-11e4-bd9c-f72cf5dc1124.html\">here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0<strong>USDA Proposes Modifications to &#8220;Actively Engaged in Farming&#8221; Definition.<\/strong> \u00a0The USDA has proposed changes to the definition of persons who are &#8220;actively engaged in farming.&#8221; \u00a0To view the proposed regulations, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsa.usda.gov\/Internet\/FSA_Federal_Notices\/activelyengaged.pdf\">click here<\/a>. \u00a0This is important because only those who are actively engaged are eligible to receive government program payments. \u00a0Importantly, the proposed definition exempts family farms.
