*The great pig war of Matagorda County.<\/strong>\u00a0 Texas Monthly recently published an article on a dispute involving a pig farm and neighboring landowners in Matagorda County.\u00a0 This dispute centers around the application of the Texas Right to Farm statute.\u00a0 [Read article here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n

*FIinCEN publishes new interim final rule; only foreign entities required to file.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Our rollercoaster ride seems to have come to completion with regard to beneficial ownership reporting under the Corporate Transparency Act.\u00a0 Last week, FinCEN published an interim final rule in the Federal Register revising the definition of a “reporting company” meaning only those entities formed under the law of a foreign country that registered to do business in the United States.\u00a0 Only these “reporting companies” are required to file beneficial ownership information.\u00a0 All domestic companies which were required to file under the prior law, will now be exempt.\u00a0 [Read Rule here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n

*President Trump announces tariffs.\u00a0 <\/strong>Of course, the big news this week was President Trump’s announcement of tariffs that will apply to most of the United States’ trading partners.\u00a0 DTN Progressive Farmer published an article summarizing the tariff announcement and\u00a0 potential impact on agriculture.\u00a0 [Read article here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n

*Texas lithium law update.<\/strong>\u00a0 Vinson & Elkins recently published an update on the law as it relates to lithium mining in Texas.\u00a0 This is a topic we previously discussed here<\/a> on my Ag Law in the Field podcast.\u00a0 The update discusses three key updates that could impact lithium mining in Texas.\u00a0 [Read article here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n

*Federal court upholds Iowa “ag gag law.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>A federal district court in Iowa upheld Iowa’s “ag gag” statute that criminalizes trespassing and recording photos or videos on ag operations in the state.\u00a0 Our friend, Beth Rumley, explained the ruling here<\/a>. *Why estate planning is as essential as sunscreen.<\/strong>\u00a0 Just in time for Spring, the Jaburg Wilk law firm wrote a great article discussing the importance of sunscreen and estate planning.\u00a0 [Read article here<\/a>.]<\/p>\n
