Window WOWed
This was a new contest for the District beginning in 2011. The idea is for teams of up to five (5)
members of any age to design a window display using merchandizing and marketing techniques to
“market” fashion merchandise and products. Guidelines follow.
Display area is 8 feet long, 8 feet high, and 30 inches wide. One 8 foot table will be provided.
Two 8 feet lattice panels may be available for use (depending on number of entries).
Display can start from the table or from the floor.
Creativity is encouraged but display should coordinate
with the theme. Teams must provide everything they
use in the display.
4-H must be incorporated into the display.
Participants will have an hour and 30 minutes to
complete the display.
All teams will start and stop simultaneously.
Theme: Be True to Who You Are (Don’t forget to incorporate 4-H in the theme)
TAPS, TASSELS and TACKS:
SHOE FUN
Decorate a shoe and bring to the Showcase. Judging will
be based on creativity, originality and workmanship.
Decorations may be purchased or handmade. No entry to
exceed 24” X 24” X 24”.
> This is not a team event.
> Theme: Add some Clover to Your 4H Project Style! (Don’t forget to incorporate 4-H in the theme)
Incorporate the best parts of your favorite project into your shoe decorations! Are you in a fashion project? Think rickrack and buttons! Are you in a nutrition project? Try food or cooking utensils. Sport fishing? Throw on some lures and fish tack! Photographer? Add some film or photos.

The San Antonio Livestock Exposition established the Rural Youth Award 56 years ago to honor youth leaders across the State of Texas. Today, this award provides recognition for 4-H and FFA members who have shown outstanding leadership in their organization and community. Each organization conducts its own nomination and selection process and submits 20 honorees to represent their respective organization. Texas youth involved in 4-H and FFA may apply for this award through only one organization.
These awards have been confirmed for 2012 and the application is now open on-line for submissions. The application process will remain open until Friday, May 4, 2012. Those selected as 2012 honorees will be announced in time for them to be registered and confirmed to attend Texas 4-H Roundup in June.
The application process for 4-H is open to 4-H youth across Texas. Rules for application and selection for the SALE Rural Youth Awards for Texas 4-H are attached. Deadline for applying on-line: Friday, May 4, 2012 (No late entries accepted)
Application website: http//fs4.formsite.com/state4h/form10/form_login.html (this site is set up where an application can log back into their application and make necessary edits up until the deadline).
Angela Stinson (Smith County Vet Science and Show Team Member) and her daughter Nicole Jones are challenging each Smith County 4-H Chapter to join the fight against all forms of cancer with your participation in the Relay for Life fundraiser event for the American Cancer Society of Smith County. All the funds raised will go back into our community to help with the care and treatment of people with cancer.
Each chapter can get creative in fund-raising. Some ideas are bake sales, car washes, and raffles. One fund-raising idea is to sell luminaries for the event in memory or celebration of a loved one. All fund-raising must be complete and turned in by April 19th. You don’t have to be present at the relay in order to participate. The relay is April 20th. Watch your emails for more details.
The team who raises the most money for the relay will be recognized at this year’s awards banquet.
If you want to be a leader for your chapter see attached directions. How to join 4H Relay for Life
