They get their name because when agitated they can\u00a0release an unpleasant odor. All stink bugs have sucking piercing mouth parts. Stink bugs can cause significant losses in sorghum because they feed directly on the developing seeds. After feeding, the damaged seed is more likely to be affected by fungi or other plant diseases.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Positive Identification<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A stink bug adult can be positively identified by looking for the large triangular shaped scutellum on their back. Their bodies are normally shield like in shape as well. Determining the actual species is not as significant for stink bugs because they are all controlled the same. A few species like the spined soldier bug shown below are actually predaceous and feed on other insects.
