Another successful, provocative, and energizing meeting in Fayetteville! Thanks to all who worked behind the scenes to make it happen.
Special thanks to our guests:
- Dr. Greg Thoma (Chemical Engineering), University of Arkansas, who presented An introduction to LCA in agriculture for dairy and swine production; and
- Dr. Zola Knowles Moon (Human Environmental Sciences) and Dr. Jennie Popp (Agricultural Economics), University of Arkansas, who presented a sociological look at Adaptive Capacity as it relates to livestock and poultry production, including some constructive criticism of our causal-loop diagram.
Thanks also to S-1032 members:
- Dr. Wendy Powers, Michigan State University, who helped us think through how we might extend the practical use of our process-oriented research data through public or quasi-public databases; and
- Dr. Luis Rodriguez, University of Illinois, who led us through some real-world examples and applications of trans-disciplinary modeling and optimization.
Hope to see all of you – and more – in East Lansing in June 2015, immediately prior to the Innovations in Collaborative Modeling conference!
The Shannon Diversity Indices (SDI) for geographic region, sex, and academic discipline have been updated to reflect the participants in our 2014 Annual meeting. They have also been normalized to the maximum possible SDI for each of the three strata. We have ceased to associate our members with particular livestock or poultry species in recognition that the overall goals of S-1032 transcend animal species, even though our funding proposals will often reflect expertise of our members in each species.
