I was recently visiting with someone about the mobile cooking school and was asked what would be 2 things that I would say might encourage someone to do something like this. In other words, what is the why?
- It’s impactful. Although lectures and demos (even food demos with samples) are effective, hands-on learning tends to make a greater impact and increase the likelihood of participants actually using the skills they learn. (Like the 4-H motto says “learn by doing”)
- It’s flexible. Because the lessons are not a specific “do/say” and the handouts are not prescribed, educators can use the framework to tailor the classes to fit the audience more directly.
- It’s practical. It was developed by an educator and the instructor’s guide is for educators. The guide is what I wish I had when I started the project.
Oooops, that’s three things…well…there you go…
